Market prices
Prices come from third-party market data feeds and are not real time. Each instrument stores one daily bar (open, high, low, close and volume) per trading session, dated by its own exchange's calendar: US stocks by the New York session, crypto by the UTC day, and non-US indexes by their local session. A closing-price run after the US close refreshes every symbol, and quotes are updated through the trading day.
- Splits: when a stock splits, its whole price history is reloaded on the adjusted basis so charts do not show a false jump.
- Delistings: when a symbol stops trading (after a merger, buyout or delisting) and has had no new prices for 14 days, it is taken off the site rather than left showing a frozen price.
- Checks: after each US close, every S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 and Dow 30 member is checked for that day's bar, and gaps are flagged for repair.
How returns and comparisons are calculated
- Period return = (latest close − close at the start of the period) ÷ close at the start, shown as a percentage. Periods are today, 7 days, 28 days, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.
- Head-to-head charts rebase both assets to 0% on the first day, so the lines show cumulative return rather than price. The spread is the gap between the two returns in percentage points.
- Previous-period and year-over-year comparisons run the same calculation on the preceding window, or the same window a year earlier.
- Returns exclude dividends and are not adjusted for fees, taxes or currency.
Financial firm directory
Firm listings are built from public regulator records, including:
- Banks: FDIC BankFind (charter, regulator, assets, deposits and branches);
- Credit unions: NCUA quarterly call report data;
- Investment advisers: SEC registered and exempt-reporting adviser data (assets under management, employees), with links to the firm's SEC adviser summary;
- Broker-dealers and listed companies: SEC registration data and EDGAR.
The short "About" description on each listing is written with AI assistance from those records and, where the firm's site permits it in robots.txt, from the firm's own homepage. Figures such as assets and deposits come from the regulator data, not from the AI text.
Glossary
Glossary definitions are original text drafted with the help of an AI model and published in batches. They are not copied from other dictionaries. They are general explanations, not advice; if you find a mistake, please tell us and we will correct it.
Blog and market summaries
Blog articles and the short summaries on ticker pages are based on the same stored price data described above, so the figures in the text match the charts.
